Wellness Services:

Physical examinations are the cornerstone of preventative medicine. We recommend annual wellness examinations for our younger pets, with some of our geriatric patients requiring more frequent check ups. During an examination our veterinarian will check your pet's teeth, oral cavity and ears. They will auscult the heart and lungs, and feel for any abnormal lumps or growths. They will also palpate the limbs and joints to evaluate for signs of arthritis. During an exam the veterinarian may suggest routine bloodwork that can aide in diagnosing conditions before they become more serious. Annual fecal tests for internal parasites are recommended for any animal that goes outdoors.

Exams are a good time to communicate and behavioral or other concerns you may have about your pet. With open communication together we can formulate a health plan that addresses your pets individual needs.

Vaccinations are part of the wellness program at Hyannis Animal Hospital. We use vaccination guidelines based on the most current information available, as well as what is provided by the AVMA. We realize that not every pet requires the same vaccinations or the same frequency of vaccination. Using the above guidelines the veterinarian will work with you to establish a protocol for your pet that is safe and effective.

Microchipping:

A microchip is a safe and easy way to permanently identify your pet. A microchip is a small (rice grain sized) chip that is implanted under the skin between the shoulder blades. Placing the chip is as simple as administering a vaccination.

We chose this chip over others for several reasons:
Universal scanner so this chip will be picked up by any scanner at a veterinary hospital, shelter or animal control officer. Automatic address updates: every 3 months the Bayer database cross references with the US postal service, so if you move, the database automatically updates your address.

Lifetime free registration makes this more cost effective than other brands. International Microchip. Should an animal need to leave the country, some other microchips are not 'universal' and will not be accepted in other countries.

Nutrition:

Your pet's nutrition is important to us. Obesity is a problem in dogs and cats just like it is in people. Obesity prevention or treatment through exercise and proper diet can help reduce heart, orthopedic and endocrine problems. In cats especially obesity is a risk factor for the development of diabetes. Your veterinarian will discuss with you diet and lifestyle options to promote the best possible body condition for your pet.
