Ultrasound is a non invasive diagnostic test useful in identifying abnormalities in the heart or abdomen. Hyannis Animal Hospital is equipped with the latest in ultrasound technology which allows for more rapid diagnosis. Cardiac ultrasound allows imaging of the heart as it is beating. This allows imaging of heart muscle and valves in great detail.

Abdominal ultrasound is useful in evaluating the pancreas, liver, gall bladder, spleen, kidneys and urinary bladder. In addition some foreign material that is not seen with X -rays, may be seen on ultrasound. Because this is a non invasive diagnostic test, sedation is usually not needed making this less stressful on your pet.

Endoscopy is a useful as both a diagnostic tool as well as therapeutic. This can be particularly useful for obtaining tissue or organ biopsy, foreign body retrieval, or esophageal evaluation. Foreign body retrieval (mostly from the stomach) can be of great benefit as this often prevents the need for major surgery and reduces anesthesia time, which will allow for a much faster recovery for your pet. The endoscope system at Hyannis Animal Hospital utilizes the highest level of technology including a xenon light source and a large 15 inch high resolution color monitor. This allows for excellent imaging in less time.
